The Brief

Design Brief

The Felix Project is a charity rescues good, surplus food that cannot be sold and would otherwise go to waste from the food industry. They provide food to people in London and in particularly to:

They allow the people to volunteer for their charity through various of services i.e. delivering the food and working in the kitchen. However, they do not allow the public to donate food as an option of donation.

  • Access to Over1000 charities

  • Collaboration with Primary schools

  • Facilitating Homeless shelters

  • Provision to Food banks

The Subject In Question

The Challenge

From the brief, the next steps would be to
redesign their website & information on it, to clarify easily the charities goal whiles making it easily digestible for users. In addition, the main task flow that was focused on is their digital donation process. As a result, The Felix Project will be able to gain more support, raise further awareness of their cause and receive more donations.

Secondary Research

After reviewing our client brief, we delved into the secondary research on existing data and important information about food waste and donations. This enabled us to explore the problem space and help us identify important questions about the project.
The costs of living in London are 15-58% higher than the rest of the UK.
At least 3 million tonnes of edible food waste is generated by the UK food industry each year.
Nearly 2 million Londonders are going hungry everyday and 28% live in poverty in (2.5 million).

Primary Research

Sessions

We conducted interviews based on the topic of food waste and donations, which was followed with user testing sessions to gain more insight on how the users would interact with their current website. The aim was to identify the users attitudes, behaviours, needs and goals when using The Felix Project website, on the topics of charities and donations. As a result of the user testing, all of our assumptions were confirmed.
Interview Summary

People tend not to give money to charities because they are uncertain how it will be used as there tends to be a lack of transparency with how organisations use their money. The majority of people stated they lack the resources (money or time) to do donate to charity. Instead, they opt for alternative methods such as donating their food or items. This way they can support the cause of the charity without having to give money or time. However, people believe that most charities do not provide alternative options of donations.
